Area Girls: Ingalls rolls; Ulysses girls advance

The Ingalls Lady Bulldogs avenged their lone loss of the season on Thursday night with a resounding 55-32 victory over Bucklin in a semifinal contest of the Southern Plains/Iroquois League basketball tournament at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City.

The victory improves the Lady Bulldogs' season record to 11-1 and they now will face Spearville (10-2) in the championship game at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Bucklin had won an earlier game in December, 36-28. Spearville advanced with a 48-47 victory over South Central.

In Thursday's semifinal, though, the Lady Bulldogs jumped off to a 19-10 lead after one quarter and then blew the game open with a 16-8 advantage in the second, providing them with a 35-18 halftime lead. It was 41-26 after three quarters and a 14-6 fourth quarter surge iced the victory.

Taylor Bleumer and Rebecca Wyatt combined for 42 points to lead the No. 1-ranked Class 1A-Division II Lady Bulldogs. Bleumer had 22 and Wyatt 20 as they accounted for all but 13 of the team's points. Morgan Hood was tops for Bucklin with 10 points.

At Dodge City, Kiowa County's Lady Mavericks held off a fourth-quarter rally by the South Gray Lady Rebels in posting a 41-36 consolation bracket victory at the Southern Plains/Iroquois League tournament.

Kiowa County led 14-11, 26-20 and 31-23 at the quarter stops.

Riann Heft led the Lady Mavericks with 15 points while Dusty Watkins tossed in 16 points to lead the Lady Rebels.

Ulysses 43,

At Haven, the Ulysses Lady Tigers upset No. 2-seeded Cheney, 43-24, in the first round of the 39th Annual Wildcat Classic.

The Lady Tigers (3-8) Lady Cardinals (8-3)by taking a 9-7 lead after one quarter, extending it to 19-11 at halftime and building it to 33-18 after three quarters.

Kaylea Britton was the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers and in the game with 19 points. Payton Scheer and Taylor Needham led Cheney with nine and eight points, respectively.

The victory puts the Lady Tigers into today's 6 o'clock semifinal against Conway Springs, a 41-19 winner over Halstead. In other first round games, it was Haven over Nickerson 56-26 and Moundridge dropping Kingman, 40-33.
