SCOTT CITY — It didn't take long for the Scott City Beavers to light up the scoreboard Tuesday night at Darner Field. The Beavers score 29 unanswered first half points on the way to shutting out the Lakin Broncs 43-0 in Class 3A bi-district action.

An overpowering Scott City offense rolled early, taking the opening drive 53 yards in eight plays. A three-yard run by sophomore Wyatt Kropp capped the drive. The Beavers added two points on a pass from quarterback Trey O'Neil to senior Brayden Strine.

Lakin fumbled on its opening possession, the first of two on the night, but Scott City was unable to capitalize and turned the ball over on downs, but managed to preserve an 8-0 as the quarter ended.

The Beavers struck early in the second quarter on an 8-yard touchdown run by Sloan Baker at the 10:18 mark. Tre Stewart added the extra point, pushing the lead to 15-0.

Scott City scored twice more just before halftime while the Beaver defense forced a second Lakin fumble and intercepted Broncs quarterback Caleb Seeger.

A fourth down, 16-yard pass from Brett Meyer to Brayden Strine add six more to the Scott City lead. Tre Stewart added the extra point, giving the Beavers a 22-0 advantage with time running out in the half.

The Beavers got the ball back one more time before half and scored on a one-yard run by Sloan Baker. Another Stewert extra point gave Scott City a 29-0 lead at the break.

Lakin had the ball to start the second half, but an interception by Scott City's Cooper Griffith ended the drive.

A 15-yard run by Strine set up the next Scott City score. O'Neil crossed the goal line on a two-yard quarterback sneak. Stewert added the extra point, pushing the Beaver lead to 36-0, ending the 3rd quarter.

Scott City scored one more time to begin the fourth quarter. Chantz Yager scored from four-yards out, capping the 53 yard drive and Stewart added the extra point.

The Beavers rolled up nearly 400 yards of offense in moving on to the second round as they begin defense of their 2012 state championship.

Scott City travels to Phillipsburg on Saturday. Both teams have a 9-1 record.
