Sub-state: Greeley Co. boys, Ingalls girls head back to 1A-Div. II state

Greeley County 46, Cheylin 39

Greeley County used consistent offense throughout their game against the Cougars behind AJ Govert's 20 points to edge out Cheylin, 46-39, on Saturday night to claim the sub-state championship held at Colby.

Govert's 20 points led all scorers to get the bulk of Greeley County's points and was the only player for the Jackrabbits in double figures as Govert scored points in each quarter.

Ethan Young led Cheylin with 19 points.

Greeley County, the defending state champion, will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will face Otis-Bison at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday in Hays.

Wallace Co. 47, Greeley Co. 30

The Lady Jackrabbits trailed early against Wallace County and Greeley County fell in the sub-state championship against the Lady Wildcats, 47-30, on Saturday at Colby.

Hallie Kuhlman and Rachel Kuhlman led Wallace County's attack with 13 and 10 points, respectively, as the Lady Wildcats led 26-7 at halftime.

Hannah Whitaker led Greeley County with 10 points. Greeley County ends its season at 15-7.

Ingalls 35, Dighton 25

The Lady Bulldogs held Dighton to one point in the third quarter to take a double digit lead and held off Dighton in the fourth quarter to win the sub-state championship over the Lady Hornets 35-25 at Fowler on Saturday.

Tara Whipple and Janae Droste led Ingalls in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively, as the Lady Bulldogs led 17-11 at the half.

Leslie Speer led Dighton with nine points. The Lady Hornets end their season at 16-6.

Fowler 55, Healy 43

The Fowler Goldbugs outscored Healy in each quarter and pulled away late for a 55-43 victory over the Eagles on Saturday to claim the sub-state championship at Fowler.

Jett Reese and Ty Clark led Fowler's scoring attack with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Joel Milford also had double figures for the Goldbug's with 10 points as Fowler led 27-21 at halftime.

The Eagles got 25 points from Darrick York and 10 points from Lucas Ellis. They end their season at 17-5.

2A Sub-state

Meade 76, Syracuse 54

The Buffaloes scored in double digits each quarter and used a 20-point halfime lead to cruise to the sub-state championship before their home crowd over Syracuse, 76-54, on Saturday night.

Two players for Meade combined for 52 points with Morgan Davis scoring 29 points and Randy Friesen 23 points to easily pace Meade. Gunner Cordes also was in double figures for the Buffaloes with 10 points.

J.D. Howell led Syracuse with 14 points. Erik York and Kyle Dupree also had double figures for the bulldogs with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Bulldogs end their season at 13-10.

Meade 66, Kinsley 53

The Lady Buffaloes used big first and third quarters to get a hold against the Lady Coyotes and helped Meade to claim the sub-state championship over Kinsley 66-53 also in front of their home crowd on Saturday.

Kinzie Friesen had a big night for Meade with 25 points. Tarah Wiens scored 13 points, while Kalea DeVine and Taylor Cook each scored 10 points for the Lady Buffs. Meade led 31-24 at halftime.

Amber Espinosa led Kinsley with 12 points. Brittany Gleason added 11 points and Alison Habiger 10 points for the Lady Coyotes.

Meade will have the No. 8 seed in the 2A state tournament and will go up against undefeated (22-0) Olpe at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Kansas State's Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan.
