Softball

According to Garden City High School athletic director Martin Segovia, the Lady Buffs softball team, with a 14-3 record, will host a Class 6A first-round regional tournament on Tuesday at Tangeman Sports Complex. Teams which may be in the four-team bracket likely will be Derby, Dodge City and Haysville-Campus.

The Lady Buffs likely are to be the overall No. 2 seed in the 12-team, three-regional bracket.

Games will be played at 2 p.m., 3:45 and 5:30. The winner advances to the Class 6A state tournament on May 24 and 25 at the Blue Valley District Softball Complex in Overland Park. According to Segovia, the Lady Buffs will play the 3:45 p.m. game.

If results from games to be played Thursday and today go true to form, the Lady Buffs would likely face Western Athletic Conference rival Dodge City in the 2 p.m. game.

Girls soccer

The GCHS girls soccer team will likely host either Wichita Southeast or Dodge City in a Class 6A South Central Regional 2 semifinal game on Monday at 5 p.m. at Buffalo Stadium.

The Lady Buffs, 9-6-1 for the season, currently sit in the No. 5 seed in the 12-team, three-regional bracket. A victory on Monday puts them into the regional championship game on Thursday at a site to be determined.

With many of the 12 teams in the South Central Regional playing Thursday, final seeding will not be made until Saturday. Teams in the 12-team regional include Maize (12-2-0), Wichita East (11-4-0), Wichita Heights (10-5-0), Hutchinson (9-5-1), Garden City (9-6-1), Wichita Northwest (7-7-0), Derby (6-6-3), Wichita Southeast (7-8-0), Dodge City (5-9-1), Wichita North (5-10-0), Wichita South (4-10-0) and Haysville-Campus (3-11-0).
