The Garden City High School girls and boys bowling teams came home Saturday with middle-of-the-pack finishes at the prestigious 24-team Great Plains Invitational, held at North Rock Lanes in Wichita.
The Lady Buffs took 12th while the boys finished 13th, both unable to qualify for the final 8-team match play portion of the tournament.
All teams rolled a three-game team series before moving into a 12-game Baker format where the teams use all five bowlers who roll two frames each to compile one score.
In the 3-game series, Alexa Hemmert rolled a 598 series to finish 12th individually in the 144-player field while Theron Kells had a 655 and finished 11th for the Buffs' boys squad.
The boys were in sixth position through the 3-game series, but then struggled in the Baker format, according to coach Kip Nichols.
Next action for the bowlers will be a home triangular at 3 p.m. on Thursday at Hard Rock Lanes with Liberal and Holcomb.
