Cimarron girls roll past Elkhart, 66-39

The Cimarron Lady Bluejays utilized a 25-9 third quarter scoring advantage en route to a 66-39 Hi-Plains League win over Elkhart on Thursday night at Elkhart.

The Lady Bluejays were leading 28-21 before the third quarter outburst in which junior guard Avery Burns scored 12 of her game-high 26 points.

Cimarron got double-figure scoring from Lindsay Wehkamp with 14 points and Kate Lock with 11. Araceli Gonzales and Payton Fleming paced the Lady Wildcats with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Cimarron improved its record to 5-1 heading into the holiday break.

Elkhart boys 57, Cimarron 51

The Elkhart Wildcat boys used a balanced scoring attack to outpace the Cimarron Bluejays on Thursday night in Hi-Plains League action at Elkhart.

The Wildcats were ahead 12-10 after one quarter, expanded the lead to 29-20 by halftime and then saw the margin trimmed to 40-35 after three quarters. A 17-16 fourth quarter edge preserved the victory for Elkhart

Joey Franzitta scored a game-high 21 points for Cimarron while Ted Boersma added 18 for the Bluejays. Elkhart was led by Jordan Simmons with 17 points while Ulises Prieto and Cole Parks added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
