Seniors Joey Franzitta and Avery Burns led comebacks from early deficits on Thursday night as the Cimarron boys and girls basketball teams posted victories over Elkhart in Hi-Plains League action at Cimarron.

The Bluejays' boys rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to claim a 47-43 victory over the Wildcats while the Lady Bluejays overcame an 11-9 first-quarter Elkhart lead to win going away, 59-39.

Franzitta scored 16 points to lead three Bluejays in double figures while Burns scored a season-high 25 points to pace the Lady Bluejays as they remained unbeaten at 6-0.

Following Franzitta in scoring for the Bluejays were Randy Allen and Ted Boersma with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Braden Harbour had 12 points to lead Elkhart.

Cimarron's boys led 7-2 after the first quarter, but then fell behind 22-13 at halftime. A 19-12 third period advantage trimmed the deficit to 34-32 heading to the fourth quarter where the 'Jays had a 15-9 margin. Cimarron's boys are now 2-4 while Elkhart is 3-1.

The Lady Bluejays found themselves behind in the early going before an 18-9 run in the second quarter put them up for good, 27-17, at halftime. Another strong third quarter, 19-10, put the game out of reach as the Lady 'Jays took a 46-27 lead into the fourth quarter.

Burns, a 5-6 guard and a member of The Telegram's 2011 All-Area first team, paced the Lady Bluejays to their victory. Fellow senior Lindsay Wehkamp added 10 points to the winning effort as seven other players scored. Kali Hoskinson had 14 points for the Lady Wildcats, who fell to 2-2.
