Southwestern Heights' Wes Winfrey put the football in the air 45 times Friday night against the Sublette Larks.

He completed 19 of those for 210 yards. That's the good news.

The bad news, at least for the Mustangs, is that six of those were picked off by Sublette defensive backs Brandon Stokes and Mason Hibbard as the Larks rolled to a convincing 26-6 season-opening triumph.

For their effort, the defensive backs are sharing The Telegram's Area Player of the Week award.

"They both played extremely well and just had the night where they were in the right place at the right time," Sublette coach Steve Simpson said. "I guess when you put the ball up that many times, if your people are where they're supposed to be, they'll have those chances."

One of Hibbard's interceptions came in the second quarter when he returned it 43 yards for a touchdown.

"We tended to get a little conservative in the second half," Simpson said. "But overall, we played well. It's always nice to have that experience and speed that you have with these guys."
