Hugoton remains perfect with 66-14 rout of Southwestern Heights

In Hugoton, the Eagles ran their record to 4-0 as they took care of Southwestern Heights, 66-14.

The Eagles scored on the opening kickoff when Caleb Gifford returned it 81 yards for the score. Zach Dunlap threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in the first quarter as they opened up a 24-6 lead.

In the second quarter, Keithan Martin and Bubba Beltz each ran for two touchdowns as Hugoton built a 51-6 halftime lead.

Gifford and Delmer Reyes both scored rushing touchdowns in the third to complete the Eagles' scoring.

Daniel Gutierrez scored both of Heights' touchdowns, the first on a pass from Wes Winfrey and the second on a 27-yard run. Hugoton amassed 490 yards rushing on 40 carries.

Steve Harkness scored both of Wichita County's touchdowns, one on an 85-yard return and the other on a two-yard run.

At Sublette, the Lakin Broncs evened their season record at 2-2 with a 21-6 win over the Larks.

Sublette struck first on a short Danny Gonzalez run in the first quarter. That was it for the Larks. Lakin didn't get its first score until a one-yard run by Evan Holmes in the third quarter.

Alex Jones caught two fourth quarter touchdown passes from Dylan Shalberg to put the game away.

Alex Saenz led the Broncs in rushing with 96 yards on 14 carries. Royce Williams led Sublette with 63 yards.

At Syracuse, The Bulldogs defeated Satanta 54-14 on Friday in a Hi-Plains League encounter.

Braeden Simon led the Bulldogs with 15 carries for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Tate Housholder completed 4-of-5 passes for 104 yards and also ran for two touchdowns.

Michael Young led the Indians with 17 carries for 79 yards.

The Bulldogs, 2-2, face Sublette on the road next Friday while Satanta, 0-4, is home against Southwestern Heights.

In Deerfield, the Spartans made homecoming a success as they took care of Moscow 58-40.

Cris Martinez ran for three touchdowns, threw for two and ran a kickoff back for another to lead the Spartans.

Moscow scored three straight times before halftime. Down 26-20, Deerfield scored five times in the third to take control.

For Moscow, sophomore quarterback Breck Roop ran for two scores and passed for four more, three of those to Ozvaldo Granillo.

Martinez finished with 222 yards passing and 79 rushing while Ivan Robles had 150 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Deerfield.
