INGALLS — Marty Wendel was not on his offensive tear Tuesday night, but his 13-point, 10-rebound performance was enough to lead Ingalls to an easy 49-15 Santa Fe Trail League victory over the out-manned Deerfield Spartans.

"(Wendel) was double and triple teamed and it was important that we had others step up and hit some outside shots for us tonight," Ingalls coach Butch Nally said.

Nally was referring to juniors Kaleb Batman and Mike Thompson, who each knocked down three treys in in three attempts as the Bulldogs finished the night 6-of-9 behind the arc.

"If teams continue to double and triple team Marty and we can hit those outside shots, we'll be tough to beat," Nally said. "Teams have been throwing a lot of junk defenses at us and we'll just have to adjust to those."

The game was decided early as the Bulldogs (12-7) raced out to a 13-0 first quarter lead and were up 26-3 at halftime.

"We just shot the ball horribly tonight. Nothing would fall," Deerfield coach Shane Burns said. "We did a pretty good job on Wendel but nothing went right for us on offense."

Burns bemoaned that his team hit just 3-of-25 field goals from 2-point range and Julio Gonzalez managed to knock down 2-of-3 3-pointers in the second half.

"I thought the defense did well again for us," Nally said. "I told the kids about seven or eight games ago that they needed to hang their hats on defense and they've responded. Defense is all about effort and they have been giving a lot."

Batman joined Wendel in double figures with 11 points while Thompson added nine. Gonzalez had eight points for Deerfield. Ingalls hit 20-of-39 field goals for 51 percent. The Bulldogs also turned the ball over just 10 times, comparted to 23 for the Spartans.
