Cimarron High School will have a new football coach when the 2013 season kicks off on Sept. 6.

Doug Minneman, who had coached the Bluejays the previous five seasons in compiling a 17-30 record, has resigned his position.

David Edgier, athletic director at CHS, confirmed Minneman's resignation in a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon.

The Bluejays and Minneman were coming off their best record in nearly a decade, a 7-3 overall mark and a berth in the Class 3A state playoffs.

Ediger said he received a resignation letter from Minneman on Aug. 12, one week prior to the start of fall drills, which began on Monday.

"He just indicated he had some things he needed to take care of," Ediger said. "It's not an ideal time frame, but we'll do the best we can."

Taking over the reins will be Ashley Seabolt, who served as one of Minneman's assistants in 2012, Seabolt mainly worked with the team's special teams and coached the junior varsity squad.

"Ashley's got a good amount of experience, a lot of it in youth football," Ediger said. "He's familiar with our kids. Like all of our coaches, he will be on a 1-year supplemental contract and we'll evaluate his performance just like we do all of our coaches."

The Bluejays return eight offensive and five defensive starters off that 7-3 team, which lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, 55-6, to eventual state champion Scott City.

Among the top returners for the Bluejays will be senior running back Ty Clark, who rushed for 1,312 yards and 17 touchdowns his junior season.

The Bluejays open their 2013 season at Wichita County.
