Syracuse's Rash honored at Ks. Wesleyan
By BRETT MARSHALL
Former Syracuse High School star golfer Kamie Rash, who claimed the Class 3-2-1A state golf title in 2009, has recently been selected as a Capital One College Division All-District honoree in the NAIA women's at-large division.
Rash, a recent graduate from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, was selected by the College Sports Information Directors Association and the award was announced on Thursday.
Rash was a three-sport standout for the Lady Bulldogs, competing in golf, basketball and track and field. Upon her graduation from Syracuse, she attended and played two years of basketball at Pratt Community College. She then transferred to KWU, where she has played for the Lady Coyotes golf team.
This past season, Rash won eight of the 11 tournaments in which she has played, one of which came last fall when she captured medalist honors at the NCAA Division II University of Nebraska-Kearney tournament. She became the first KCAC women's golf medalist in the inaugural year of the sport being recognized as a championship event.
Rash has been a three-time President's Honor Roll selection at Kansas Wesleyan, an academic all-conference selection and will be a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete this year. She recently completed her undergraduate degree at KWU, majoring in exercise science-corporate fitness, graduating with Magna Cum Laude honors, and also received the Sport and Exercise Department Achievement Award during Honors Convocation.
In the NAIA District 3, in which Kansas Wesleyan participates, seven of the 10 selections to the academic all-district team were golfers, and the average grade-point-average of the honorees was 3.93, including four students who carried 4.0 GPAs.
First-team Academic All-District honorees will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
District 3 includes the following states: Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin.
