Scott City boys, Dighton, Greeley Co. girls win

Boys

Scott City 53, Ulysses 32

Trey O'Neil scored 26 points, including hitting three 3-pointers, to power the Scott City Beavers boys to a 53-32 Great West Activities Conference victory on Friday night in Ulysses.

The Beavers, the three-time defending champions in Class 3A who have now moved into Class 4A-II, opened up a 24-10 lead after the first quarter and were comfortably ahead at halftime, 35-17. It was 45-26 after three quarters.

Brett Meyer added 11 points for the Beavers, who also had a pair of treys from Chantz Yager and Dylan Hutchins. Ulysses got 13 points from Tregg Rodriguez and 10 points from Nathan Medina. Rodriguez had three treys in his total.

Scott City heads into the holiday break with a 3-1 overall record and 1-0 in the GWAC while Ulysses is 3-2 and 0-1.

Girls

Dighton 45, Wallace Co. 14

At Sharon Springs, the Dighton Lady Hornets used a tight defensive effort, including holding the host Lady Wildcats scoreless in the second quarter en route to a 45-14 victory on Friday night.

The Lady Hornets got off to a slow start as the game was tied at 6 after one quarter, but then Dighton went on a 19-0 run in the second period to take a 25-6 lead at halftime. It was 33-11 at the end of three quarters and another 12-3 advantage in the final quarter completed the scoring.

Leslie Speer scored 14 points on 7-of-8 field goal shooting to pace the Lady Hornets. Shambrey Budd added 10 points to the winning effort. No scoring was available for Wallace County.

Greeley Co. 46, Quinter 40

At Quinter, the Greeley County Lady Jackrabbits got 20 points from Kelli Holthaus and two others reached double figures to lead the team to a 46-40 over the Quinter Lady Bulldogs on Friday night.

Holthaus scored 15 of her points in the final half while getting scoring support from Cassidy Hild with 12 and Kashli Holthaus with 10.

The Lady Jackrabbits (1-4) jumped out to a 13-6 first quarter lead and had a 27-13 halftime lead. It was 34-28 after three quarters when Quinter outscored Greeley County 15-7.
