GCHS tennis finishes second at Hutch invite

Brittany Landon took first place in No. 2 singles and Claire Schmidt added a second-place finish in No. 1 singles Thursday to pace the Garden City High School girls tennis team to a second-place finish at the Hutchinson Invitational.
Landon went 4-0 on the day, and Schmidt went 3-1 as the Buffaloes posted 30 points to finish second to host Hutchinson, which swept both doubles divisions en route to taking the team title with 33 points. Dodge City finished third with 29 points, followed by Wichita Heights with 23 and Newton with 17.
Schmidt defeated Wichita Heights' Jessica Schmidt 8-3, Newton's Erin Greber 8-1 and Hutchinson's Megan Hansen 8-1, with her only loss being to Kelly Brauer of Dodge City, 8-6.
Landon defeated Elif Ojbe of Wichita Heights 8-0, Tasha Westhoff of Newton 8-2, Shelby Queal of Hutchinson 8-7 (6) and Cadence Keeton of Dodge City 8-6 en route to her first-place finish.
Garden City's No. 1 doubles team of Jannette Martinez and Kaylee Keller went 2-2 for third place. They defeated Mikeleigh Wilson and Lara Scott of Newton, 8-7 (4), and Landry Flores and Taylor Fischer of Dodge City, 8-6. The Buffalo duo's losses came to Becca King and Sofia de la o of Wichita Heights, 8-3, and Hannah Weber and Allison Reiser of Hutchinson, 8-1.
The Buffaloes No. 2 doubles team of Allison Doll and Tania Carmona-Pastrana went 2-2 and also finished third. They defeated Chanell Nguyen and Claire Tritchler of Wichita Heights (score not available) and Emily Gile and Ellen Marshall of Newton, 8-1, and suffered losses to Mellissa Fee and Ashton Fee of Hutchinson, 8-2, and Sarah Raugewitz and Keysha Howard of Dodge City (score not available).
