The Garden City High School girls swim team was unable to qualify any of its three relay teams or individual Samantha Norton in Friday's preliminaries of the Class 6A state swim meet in Topeka.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Ashley Longoria, Claire Schmidt, Lindsay Bradstreet and Erika Sschafer clocked a 2:09.42, just off their season best mark of 2:08.47. It took a time of 2:04.25 to make it the 16-team final.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Katelyn Greene, Abigail Ginest-Dougherty, Alexa Shaffer and Norton were timed in 1:54.12. It took a time of 1:50.33 to earn a spot in the finals on Saturday.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Schmidt, Shaffer, Greene and Norton swam to a time of 4:11.86, well off their qualifying standard of 4:09.03 earlier in the season. The 16th place time to earn a spot in the Saturday finals was 4:02.80.

Norton had been the team's lone individual qualifier, getting a conditional entry with a season best of 2:29.28, but she swam a 2:34.48 on Friday. The final qualifier was timed in 2:20.53.

Greene and Shaffer are the lone seniors from that group, and coach Casey Wise will return a solid group of swimmers for the 2014 season.
