Ulysses, Stanton Co., Wichita Co. boys win

Ulysses 43,

Liberal 38

At Ulysses, the host Tigers used a stingy defense to hold off the Liberal Redskins, 43-38, in a non-league encounter Tuesday night.

The Tigers (3-3) took early leads in the low-scoring affair at 8-4 after one quarter and 16-13 at halftime. The teams battled to a 13-13 standoff in the third quarter as the Tigers went to the final eight minutes ahead, 29-26. They then outscored the Redskins 14-12 to cinch the victory.

Nathan Medina paced the Tigers with 13 points and Levi Degollado added 10. For Liberal, JJ Lewis topped the scoring with 12 points and Trenton Hammond added 10.

Elkhart 59,

Sublette 55

At Sublette, the visiting Elkhart Wildcats (2-4, 1-2) outscored the Larks 27-17 in the final quarter to get a late win over Sublette with a 59-55 Wildcat victory on Tuesday.

Israel Barco led Elkhart with 18 points. Also in double figures for the Wildcats were Alex Gomez with 13 points, Wes Higgins with 12, and Brendan Carter with 10 points.

Taylor Williamson led Sublette with 26 points. Nate Cearley also scored in double figures for the Larks with 13 points.

The Larks had held 38-32 lead going into the final quarter.

Stanton Co. 53, Syracuse 47

At Syracuse, the Stanton County Trojans (6-1, 1-0) took control of their Hi-Plains League game in the second half to defeat the Bulldogs, 53-47, on Tuesday night.

Ahead 25-24 at halftime, the Trojans outscored the Bulldogs 17-10 in the third quarter to go up 42-34, and then hung on for the victory, despite getting outscored in the fourth.

Marques Logan paced the Trojans scoring with 15 points and Cole Smith added 10 to the winning effort. Tierney Cashler was the lone double-figure scorer for the Bulldogs (1-6, 0-2) with 18 points.

Wichita Co. 44,

Lakin 41

At Lakin, the Wichita County Indians evened their season record at 3-3 (1-1 in Hi-Plains League play) with a come-from-behind 44-41 victory over the host Broncs on Tuesday night.

The Broncs (1-6, 0-3) had jumped out to a 16-11 first quarter lead and were up 24-18 at halftime. Then, the Indians slowly began their comeback with a 9-7 edge in the third to make it 31-27. But a 17-10 advantage in the fourth enabled the Indians to overtake the Broncs (1-6).

Neil Fletcher paced the Indians with 14 points, Jantz Budde added 12 and Alberto Gallegos chipped in 10 for the winning cause. Lakin got 11 points from Kody Christiansen.
