Ulysses boys advance by Nickerson; Lakin, Greeley Co. girls end seasons

Ulysses 43,

Nickerson 36

At Ulysses, the Tigers used balanced scoring to open up a 10-point lead after the first quarter and hold off Nickerson the rest of the way for a 43-36 win to open up Class 4A sub-state play on Wednesday.

Tate Annis led Ulysses with eight points as seven other players for the Tigers scored in the game.

Ethan Belden led Nickerson with nine points to lead all scorers in the game.

Ulysses will move on to face Colby (7-14) in the sub-state semifinal at 6 p.m. today in Pratt.

At Cheney, the Cheney Lady Cardinals opened up with a 12-2 first quarter and held on to beat Lakin 41-35 on Wednesday in the first round of Class 3A sub-state action.

Carlea Holt led Cheney with 10 points in a balanced scoring effort from the Lady Cardinals.

Darrie Rogers led Lakin with 15 points as the Lady Broncs end their season with a record of 9-12.

Greeley County 45

At the Class 1A-Division 2 girls quarterfinals in Ingalls, fourth-seed Fowler used strong opening and closing quarters to put away Greeley County 56-45.

Fowler outscored the Lady Jackrabbits 15-9 and 16-9 in those two periods.

Cassie Dressler led Fowler with 20 points and Brittany McDowell added 14.

Greeley County was led by Hannah Whitaker with 13 and Courtney Glazier with 10.

Fowler (12-9) will face top-seed Ingalls (20-0) in the second semifinal game tonight. Greeley County ends its season at 9-12.

At Kismet, the visiting Chaparral Lady Roadrunners outscored Southwestern Heights 32-18 in the second half to upset the Lady Mustangs 54-38 in an opening round Class 3A sub-state game on Wednesday.

Taylor Mathes led Chaparral with 12 points, followed by Ravin Coffey and Amelia Ballard with 10 points apiece as Chaparral only led by two points at halftime.

Jackie Loya led Heights with 12 points. Ivon Amparson and Tiana Couch each added 10 points as the Lady Mustangs end their season at 11-10.

In Ingalls at the Class 1A-Division II quarterfinals, Ashland knocked off the Lady Pirates of Rolla 48-32.

Ashland had three players in double figures, led by Kara Reimer with 14. Nichole Borgelt added 13 and Canaan Endicott 10.

Rolla's high scorer was Kaleigh Barrett with 11 points, the only Pirate to score in double figures..

Ashland (15-6) will face Moscow (16-4) in the first semifinal game at 6 tonight.

Rolla ends ended its season at 6-13.
