11-man: Hugoton, Meade, Lakin pick up blowout wins

Hugoton 48, SW Heights 0

At Hugoton, Yates Sutton and Ross Davis led the Eagles with four and two rushing touchdowns, respectively, to help Hugoton get the shutout win over Southwestern Heights 48-0 on Friday in non-conference action.

Sutton had 13 carries for 103 yards, with his longest run being 20 yards. He also connected on a 43-yard touchdown to Mitchell Persinger late in the third quarter. Davis had 13 carries for 158 yards as Hugoton had 348 team rushing yards on the night against the Mustangs.

Efrain Chavez led Southwestern Heights with 90 rushing yards in their losing effort.

Both teams begin district play next week as Hugoton travels to Pratt, while Southwestern Heights visits Holcomb.

Meade 72, Syracuse 14

At Syracuse, the visiting Meade Buffaloes overpowered Syracuse for a 72-14 Hi-Plains League and district win on Friday.

Meade's Jett Little had two rushing and passing touchdowns to lead the Buffaloes. Lawson Luetters also had two touchdown runs for Meade and a passing touchdown in the second quarter. Morgan Olvera, Dalton Wiens, and Ryan Friesen also had rushing touchdowns for Meade in the game.

Esau Moreno had both a passing touchdown and a receiving touchdown for Syracuse as the Bulldogs are still winless this season.

At Leoti, the Indians had a late 78-yard touchdown run by Jantz Budde but it was not enough to come back against Ellis in a tough 13-6 loss to the Railroaders on Friday.

Eli Lohrmeyer and Sean Lee had touchdown runs of 17 yards and 55 yards, respectively. Their two touchdowns were just enough to hold on against Wichita County.

Budde had 11 carries for 100 yards for Wichita County with Colton Northrup carrying the ball 14 times for 99 yards in the Indian's loss.

Stanton County 22, Sublette 6

At Johnson, a 270-yard rushing performance by Jeremy Amerin along with two touchdowns and the help of his offensive line allowed Stanton County to overcome Sublette late for a 22-6 win over the Larks on Friday for Stanton County's second victory of the year.

Amerin's two touchdowns came on a four yard run in the second quarter and a 27-yard run in the fourth quarter. Eddie Camacho had Stanton County's second touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a 6-yard run.

Sublette's Wyatt Brown had a 24-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter before Stanton County responded with two second half touchdowns to keep Sublette winless.

At Scott City, the Beavers overcame a sluggish start and held off Goodland late for a 28-14 win on Friday in a Great West Activities Conference game.

Brayden Strine, Paco Banda, and Martin Gough each had a rushing touchdown for the Beavers. Trey O'Neil also had a 21-yard touchdown pass to Chantz Yager to all score for Scott City. Banda led Scott City in rushing with 103 rushing yards while O'Neil had 118 passing yards.

Scott City travels to Hoisington next week to begin district play.

At Ellinwood, the Lakin Broncs used a team effort to knock off Ellinwood 46-6 on Friday in non-conference action.

Gage McAtee had three touchdowns for Lakin, two of them coming off punt returns. Caleb Seeger also had big night for Lakin with 146 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Lakin will travel to Cimarron next week to begin district play.
