In a Class 2A non-league game played at Dodge City's Memorial Stadium, Stanton County scored its winning touchdown with 4:35 to play to trip Sterling, 28-20, on Thursday night.
The victory completes the regular season for the Trojans, as they finish at 8-1 and are runners-up to Meade in District 8. They will face either Oakley or Ellis in next Friday's first round of the playoffs and those teams face-off tonight, for their district title.
Quinn Kendrick got the winning TD for Stanton County when he completed a 7-yard pass to Austin Ridenour and then ran for the 2-point conversion for the final eight-point margin.
Sterling scored first on a 32-yard pass from Riley Galyon to Austin Meyers in the first quarter. Sterling (3-6) had tied the score at 20 when Riley Galyon raced 40 yards with 7:17 remaining in the game and then completed a 2-point conversion pass to Meyers.
Kendrick threw his first TD pass of the night to Marcus Logan late in the first quarter and added a 10-yard touchdown run in the third period. Adrian Gum also scored a TD, on a 2-yard plunge. Kendrick finished the night with 123 rushing yards on 16 carries.

At Russell, the Scott City Beavers completed their fourth consecutive regular season with a perfect 9-0 record with a 55-0 whitewashing of Russell's Broncos. The Beavers have now won 37 straight regular season games and will host a Class 3A bi-district playoff game on Tuesday against Cimarron, which lost 34-14 to Holcomb in its district championship game on Thursday.
Scott City blew the game open early, taking a 21-0 lead after one quarter and then extending it to 48-0 at halftime.
Dalton Buehler scored the game's first TD for the Beavers, racing 68 yards and then adding another from 58 yards late in the first. Brenner Wells tacked on three TDs, scoring on runs of 5, 8 and 1 yards.
Brett O'Neil completed a 43-yard TD strike to Drew Kite and Tius Price had a 64-yard punt return and an 8-yard run for scores.

At Ulysses, the host Tigers used 433 yards of total offense to defeat Hugoton's Eagles and clinch the Class 4A district title in a 26-0 shutout win on Thursday.
The Tigers' Alec Meierhoff completed 5-of-14 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns. His first was a 31-yard pass to Clarke Stringham in the second quarter and then a 64-yard pass to Tate Annis in the third quarter.
Freshman Ian Rudzik rushed 16 times for 111 yards, including a 40-yard TD run, while Luke Haney had the other third-quarter touchdown on a 15-yard run.
The Tigers will host Buhler on Tuesday to open the first round of the playoffs.

At Plains/Kismet, the visiting Broncs won the battle for the Golden Saddle, as they blanked the Southwestern Heights Mustangs, 65-0, in a season-ending game for both teams in Class 3A district play.
Lakin completes its season with a 5-4 overall record and 1-2 in District 16 action. Heights concludes with a 1-8 and 0-3 record.
Gage McAtee, who had 12 carries for 131 yards, scored three touchdowns while Ty Adams, with 112 yards on 11 carries, finished with four TDs.
The Broncs took a 21-0 first quarter lead, expanded it to 48-0 at halftime before getting 10 more points in the third and one TD in the fourth. It was their highest scoring output of the season.
McAtee scored his TDs on runs of 1, 1, and 8 yards while Adams' scores came on runs of 22, 2, 9 and 4 yards.
Kevin Dasenbrock became the third Lakin player to go over the century mark in rushing, finishing the night with 133 yards on just 6 carries, but didn't score. The Broncs totaled 470 rushing yards on 48 attempts.
