11-man: Ulysses rolls again; Scott City rebounds

Ulysses 75, Goodland 34

At Ulysses, in a high scoring affair, the Tigers and Goodland Cowboys delivered plenty of offense. It would be Ulysses who would deliver more of that offense as they pulled out a 75-34 barn burner on Friday at Maxwell Field in GWAC play.

Ulysses had 669 total rushing yards in the game with Ian Rudzik providing the bulk of the rushing game. Rudzik had seven touchdowns on the night on 26 carries for 467 yards. Zach Romero also had a 100-yard rushing game as he carried the ball 21 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns in a memorable performance for the Tigers.

Tony Teeter passed for all of Goodland's touchdowns, his longest being a 60-yard pass to Dax Ruhs for the Cowboy's first touchdown in the second quarter.

In Scott City, the host Beavers rebounded from their first regular season loss in 41 games last week by taking care of conference for Hugoton 28-0.

Paco Banda scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Beavers. He scored in the first quarter and again in the third, both 2-yard runs.

Chantz Yeager recovered a fumble in the end zone for Scott City's second score, and Sloan Baker caught a 26-yard pass from Trey O'Neil for the final score.

Stratford, Texas 28, Lakin 0

At Lakin, the Broncs were no match for visiting Stratford as they were shut out by the Elks 28-0 on Friday.

Sterling Audrain, Logan Uttley, and Rett Schoonover each had rushing touchdowns in the first, second, and third quarters, respectively as Stratford rushed for a total of 256 yards. Schoonover also had a touchdown pass late in the second quarter for the Elks.

Despite a 184 rushing yard performance from Gage McAtee, the Broncs were unable to find the endzone to get the shutout loss.

Meade 60, Stanton County 6

At Meade, the Buffaloes showed their power on Friday night as they easily took care of business over Stanton County with their 60-6 win to begin district play in class 2-1A.

Meade rushed for 334 total yards on Friday, led by Jett Little who rushed for 131 yards and three touchdowns, with his longest run from 43 yards out. Morgan Olvera, Ben thompson, and Nick Finke all added a rushing touchdown for the Buffaloes as Little passed for three more touchdowns in Meade's blowout win.

Jeremy Amerin had a late touchdown for Stanton County with 16 seconds left in the game to avoid the shutout.

At Kismet, the Southwestern Heights Mustangs defended their home field with a close 24-13 win over the Bulldogs, increasing their season season record to 3-2, while dropping the Bulldogs to 0-5.

The Mustangs used a potent ground game, rushing for 201 yards, to control the game, leading from wire to wire after an opening 14-yard score by Brandon Kisner three minutes into the first quarter. But it was Efrain Chavez who did most of the heavy liftng on the ground, racking up 28 carries for 164 yards — his longest an 18-yard scamper — and a touchdown. He also ran in three 2-point conversions. Kyle Coats scored the 'Stangs third touchdown, returning a fumble 58 yards in the second quarter. The Bulldogs were led on the ground by Michael Owens, who rushed for 31 yards on 12 carries.

At Sublette, the Elkhart Wildcats continued their domination on the gridiron Friday night with a 48-0 thrashing of Sublette to stay undefeated at 5-0 after this first district game of the season.

Alex Gomez again rose to the occasion for Elkhart as he completed 7 of 16 passes for an impressive 256 yards and three touchdowns. Gomez also rushed for 139 yards and another touchdown.

Brendan Giesick completed seven of 20 passes for 85 yards and two interceptions for Sublette in addition to 124 team rushing yards as the Larks remains winless at 0-5.

At Oakley, the Wichita County Indians were no match for hosts Oakley as they were overwhelmed 68-0 on Friday against the Plainsmen for the start of district play.

Wichita County's lone bright spot was a 60-yard rushing performance by Colton Northrup in an otherwise tough night for the Indians.

Larned 33, Cimarron 23

At Cimarron, Larned improved to 5-0 with a 33-23 win over the Bluejays.

Caleb Fischer was 20-of-49 for 305 yards in the air and ran for a score, but Larned picked him off four times.

AJ Cooper had 5 receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown. Christian Fischer caught 7 passes for 111 yards.

Omar Garcia had 15 tackles to lead the Bluejays, who are now 3-2.
