Your views: Barnett best choice for First District

Published 7/31/2010 in Commentary : Letters to the Editor

The important vote for the likely replacement for Rep. Jerry Moran as our First District Congressman occurs next week. We are fortunate to have a choice among multiple strong candidates, all of whom have campaigned admirably for this position. Choosing one can be difficult, especially as many of the candidates espouse similar positions. However, the only physician in the race, Dr. Jim Barnett, is uniquely qualified to represent us all on the critical issue of the future of medical care in America.

After the economy, no issue touches every citizen so personally as health care. The sweeping changes programmed by the Obama administration will affect each and every one of us in both direct and subtle ways. Here at Fry Eye Associates, one part of our formerly tax-free employees' benefit plans will be cut in half by government regulation, making the other half taxable to our employees. This direct interference with small business makes it more difficult to attract employees and subtly taxes families who can least afford it. The complexity of these changes requires an advocate who doesn't need to learn about medical care on the job. Only a physician like Dr. Jim Barnett has the background to immediately make an impact on behalf of Kansans. Jim Barnett is a patient advocate, and he will be an exceptional advocate for each and every one of us. Vote for Jim Barnett, Republican for Congress in the First District, Tuesday.
