After reading another letter from a Kansas mother questioning the love and responsibility of Central American mothers I can no longer hold my thoughts. I believe these American mothers are so judgmental because they have completely lost sight of how incredibly fortunate they are, having been born Americans, no sacrifice required.
These Central American mothers are doing exactly what many of our own mother ancestors did. They risked everything to get their children to a safe and free country where the children could live out their potential without fear of government-sponsored death and repression.
I would ask American mothers to take a moment and think about yourself in the situation of a Central American mother who lives in daily fear of their children being taken from them and forced into horrendous situations, where death is a more desirable outcome. I would be willing to bet that nearly every mother reading this would do exactly what these Central American mothers are doing: risking everything to provide for the safety of their child. I know my own mother would have!
Regardless of your feelings about the current state of affairs in our country, each and every one of us should get on our knees every day and thank God you are an American.
