To the editor:
Mike Bogner is running for a position on the Leavenworth City Commission in the upcoming election. I grew up on Marion Street in Leavenworth. Mike and his family lived down the street. As a kid, my brothers and I used to play with the Bogners. At that time, Mike’s family owned and operated the Town Bakery on Seventh and Cherokee streets.
His family has a long and proud history in Leavenworth. His great-grandparents immigrated here from eastern Europe in the mid-1880s. His paternal grandmother was born in Leavenworth in 1878. His maternal grandmother was born in Leavenworth in 1901. His parents have lived in Leavenworth since then.
Mike is 64 years old and has also been a lifelong resident of Leavenworth. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1971. He attended the University of Kansas from 1971-1976, graduating with bachelor’s degrees in architectural engineering and civil engineering. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Kansas. Upon graduating from KU, he joined the workforce of the city of Leavenworth as assistant city engineer from 1977-1981. He then took a civil service position at Fort Leavenworth. He retired in 2016 as the chief of master planning at Fort Leavenworth.
Mike served one term on the water board. From 2003 to 2015, he was a member of the planning board. He served eight years on the preservation board. Eight years ago, he was appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals where he is currently the chairman. As a lifelong resident of the city of Leavenworth, Mike has displayed a love for this city with his unselfish manner by serving the city on these boards.
Mike and his family are Christians and attend church regularly. Mike is a model citizen of Leavenworth who takes his tasks in life very seriously. He is extremely qualified to serve as city commissioner.
He is my choice for city commissioner and I hope he is yours also. When you go to the polls Nov. 7, remember the name Mike Bogner.
