Arthur Joseph Romero

Arthur Joseph Romero, 27, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at his home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1985, in Garden City to George J. and Cynthia Ann Leiker Romero.
Romero served in the U.S. Army with the 110th Mountain Division in southern Afghanistan and was involved in the largest offensive combat operation in ISAF history. He received the Purple Heart for actions during an ambush that ensured the survival of all the wounded soldiers on his vehicle.
After discharge, he returned to Garden City and was a mill operator at Brookover Ranch Feed Yard.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joan Leiker, Jose George Romero and Elsie Romero.
Survivors include his parents of Garden City; two sisters, Tessa Blood of Garden City and Jessica Joan Romero of Cherryville; a half-sister, Helen Sanchez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a grandfather, Arthur Lee Leiker of Garden City; a girlfriend, Haddie Hooper of Garden City; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cornerstone Church in Garden City. Friends and family are invited to a meal and reception immediately after the service at the V.F.W. building in Garden City.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Arthur Romero Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
