Julian L. Ornelas, 97, Garden City, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

Julian L. Ornelas, 97, Garden City, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.

He was born Jan. 10, 1916 in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he was raised by Fransico Puildo and Encarnacion Ornelas.

In September of 1947, he married Margaret Morales in Garden City.

Mr. Ornelas moved to Garden City in 1943 and worked as a carpenter for Lee Woolman Construction Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Toney Ornelas; and a sister, Tillie Andrews.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny Ornelas of Garden City and Julian Ornelas Jr. of Nacogdoches, Texas; three daughters, Mary Piligian of Miami, Fla., and Irene Hernandez and Lupe Jennings, both of Garden City; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.

Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Memorials are suggested to Julian Ornelas Memorial Fund, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 412 N. Seventh St., Garden City, KS 67846.
