LAKIN — Edith Spencer, 99, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

LAKIN — Edith Spencer, 99, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born Nov. 16, 1913 in Kearny County to G.C. and Sadie (Oliver) Whitaker.

She married Harry J. Spencer on April 30, 1938, at Garden City. He preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Paul Miesner; three brothers, Howard, Oliver and Wayne Whitaker; and four sisters, Esther Kuhlman, Elene Henderson, Margaret Wilkin, and Anita Beth Kash.

Survivors include two daughters, Rush Ann and husband Jim Miesner of Oberlin, and Janice Urie of Lakin; a son, Harry Wayne and wife Loretta Spencer of Ozark, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Lakin. Burial will be in the Lakin Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin.

Memorials are suggested to The Budget Shop Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
