Alonso Pena-Estrada, 53, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

He was born Oct. 24, 1959 at Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Jose and Socorro (Estrada) Pena.

He was married to Maria Rivas on Dec. 31, 1991, at Garden City.

Alonso came to the United States when he was 15 years old. He has lived in Garden City for the past 25 years and worked in the boning department at Tyson Fresh Meats.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Pena of the home; three sons, Johnny Pineda, Jason Pineda and Alonzo Jr. Pena, all of Garden City; a daughter, Amanda Arredondo, Garden City; his mother, Socorro Pena, Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico; six brothers, Maurilio Pena-Estrada, Mexico; Jose Pena-Estrada, Santa Fe, N.M., Benjamin Pena-Estrada, Santa Fe, N.M., Cornelio Pena-Estrada, Mississippi; Elfido Pena-Estrada, Utah; and Adan Pena-Estrada, Mississippi; five sisters Sofia Pena-Estrada, Mexico; Ignacia Pena-Estrada, Santa Fe, N.M., Eva Silvia Pena-Estrada, Fallecida, Mexico; Virginia Pena-Estrada, Mexico; and Azucena Pena-Estrada, Colorado; and eight grandchildren.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Funeral Mass will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City.

Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Calling hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday at Garnand Funeral Home.
