Maxine Lois Portlock, 83, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

Maxine Lois Portlock, 83, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Dodge City, to John Luther Pearce and Florence Maude Womble Pearce.

On Jan. 27, 1948, she married Marvin Dale Portlock in Syracuse. They made their home in Syracuse, where Maxine worked in the medical field most of her life. She had worked for several doctors, at Hamilton County Hospital for 34 years in the Central Supply Department and EMS, and also helped Don Fellers at Fellers Funeral Home LLC for seven years.

Her husband preceded her in death as did her parents; a son, Jeffery "Jeff" Portlock; a daughter, Janice LaJeane Portlock Powers; and two sisters, Pauline Fallier and Lucille Pearce.

Survivors include six grandchildren, Jessica Clymer of Guymon, Okla., Kiesha Schwieterman, Chas Portlock and Malcolm Portlock, all of Denver, and Aleena Portlock and Haley Portlock, both of Milwaukee; and five great-grandchildren, Kloie, Carl, Trayton, Haydyn and Chelsea.

Funeral will begin at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday at the Wesleyan Church, Syracuse. Burial will follow at Syracuse Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 1 to 7 p.m. MDT today at Fellers Funeral Home LLC, Syracuse. Condolences may be sent to fellersfh@yahoo.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials payable to Christ's New Covenant Church may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
