Gene Garmon

ULYSSES — Gene Garmon, 67, of Ulysses, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born July 8, 1942, in rural Stevens County, to Leslie and Ruby Janita Laforce Garmon. He graduated from Hugoton High School in Hugoton.

On Dec. 22, 1963, he married Carole Crouse in St. Francis.

Mr. Garmon retired as an engineer from Pioneer Electric after 33 years. He enjoyed rock collecting and polishing and is listed in the KU archeological files as an arrowhead collector. He was a former Boy Scout leader and a member of the Ulysses Gun Club and Grace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jeannie Berens of Falcon, Colo.; three sons, Lance Garmon of Salsbury, Mo., Leslie Garmon of Topeka, and Bradley Garmon of Lansing, Mich.; a sister, Joyce McBride of Wichita; three grandchildren; and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lewis Garmon.

Funeral will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses. Burial will follow at Hugoton Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS 67880.
