Mildred Warnock

ELKHART — Mildred M. Warnock, 98, a former area resident, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in Colorado Springs, Colo.

She was born Oct. 16, 1911, in a dugout in Stevens County, to John and Lula Thompson.

On Sept. 26, 1933, she married Chalmer S. Warnock. They lived in the Elkhart and Hugoton areas and farmed in various locations in Kansas and Oklahoma before settling in Longton. She cooked for the Longton School District for 17 years before retiring and moving to Wichita. She relocated to Colorado Springs in 1989 to be near her daughter. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Longton, and enjoyed being with people, cooking for her family, needlework, traveling and boating.

Survivors include a son, John Warnock of Wichita; a daughter, Donna Henninge of Colorado Springs; a brother, Roscoe Thompson of Elkhart; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Bonnie; three sisters, Buena Bradfield, Broma Bagley and Million Thompson; and a grandson, Daniel Warnock.

Funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Elkhart, officiated by Timothy Lapp, pastor. Burial will follow at Elkhart Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Evercare Hospice, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
