Lorene Talbert

ULYSSES — Lorene Talbert, 78, of Ulysses, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Bob Wilson Memorial Grant County Hospital in Ulysses.

She was born April 10, 1931, in Walsh, Colo., in Baca County, to George Earl and Feena Litke Steen, and grew up in Walsh.

On Feb. 23, 1950, she married J.O. Talbert in Clayton, N.M. They moved from Walsh to Ulysses in 1953. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening and playing the organ and the piano. She also enjoyed sitting on the porch with her husband, watching the traffic go by. She was a member of Free Will Baptist Church, Ulysses.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Kenneth D. Talbert of Lincoln, Neb., Lester E. Talbert of Ulysses, and Clevern E. Talbert of Syracuse; a brother, Carroll Gene Steen of Walsh; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Earnest Ruben Talbert.

Funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Free Will Baptist Church, Ulysses, with Richard Smith presiding. Burial will be at Ulysses Cemetery.

Visitation hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Grant County Funeral Home, Ulysses. Memorials are suggested to Free Will Baptist Church of Ulysses, in care of the funeral home, 218 S. Main, Ulysses, KS 67880.
