Clarence Unruh

MONTEZUMA — Clarence Unruh, 95, of Fort Dodge and formerly of Montezuma, died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Halsey Hall in Fort Dodge, where he had been a resident.

He was born March 22, 1914, in Montezuma, to Peter P. and Lena Jantz Unruh.

A retired farmer, Mr. Unruh had lived in Fort Dodge since August 2004, moving from Colorado City, Colo. He was a member of First Assembly Of God Church in Pueblo, Colo., and had served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

On Jan. 26, 1968, he married Lorrene Watson in Cheyenne Wells, Colo. She died June 21, 2004. He also was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Jacob, Eli, Ernest and Ervin Unruh; and seven sisters, Augusta Unruh, Adina Unruh, Lydia Johnson, Martha Smith, Agnes Jantz, Elvina Koehn and Rachel Thomas.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Norma Handy of Plains, Orlando Jantz of Minneola, and Glenn Unruh of Montezuma.

Funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Montezuma Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Odle presiding. Burial will be at Morningside Cemetery in Montezuma, with military graveside rites conducted by Copeland American Legion Post No. 369.

Visitation hours are 2 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Solider's Home at Fort Dodge, in care of the funeral home, Box 421, Montezuma, KS 67867.
