Kevin Carey Settles, 65, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, from injuries sustained in a car accident in California.

He was born Dec. 6, 1953, in Hoxie to Herbert Aaron and Beatrice Corinne Settles.

He attended grade school in Cimarron and later graduated from Garden City High School. In school, he was active in thespians, debate and music.

After high school, he pursued his career and education in California, where he had moved with “The Beginning,” a Garden City-based singing group.

He worked with ABC-TV in Los Angeles for 10 years as production coordinator for on-air promotion, then left to start his own company, Greetings from Planet Myra. After moving to Ojai, Calif., he became assistant to potters Vivika and Otto Heinos.

He most recently lived in the San Diego area, where he was interior designer for Expo Design Center in Encinitas, Calif. He also was owner/senior designer for his own design company, and most recently worked for Eco-Chic, Inc., directing visuals and merchandising.

He is survived by his spouse, David Van Gilder; his sister, Jackie De Michele and her husband, John; and his niece, Jenna Carey Ross.

Memorial services will be held at l p.m. Jan. 20 at SGI-USA/San Marcos Buddhist Center, 2115 Montiel Road, San Marcos, Calif. Burial will be in Scott County Cemetery at a later date.
