Lawrence Edward Mahoney, 80, of Liberal, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at Homestead Estates Home Plus Liberal.

He was born Aug. 24, 1938, in Lyons to Lawrence and Bernice (Swenson) Mahoney.

On Dec. 22, 1963, he married Bernice Hillery in Oakley. She survives.

He graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1956.

He taught at Oakley High School, Colby Community College and Garden City Community College. He was vice president and dean of fiscal affairs at CCC and later dean of administrative services at GCCC, retiring in 1999 to Table Rock Lake in Shell Knob, Mo.

He is also survived by three daughters, Michele Schonlau of Ulysses; Tanya Dowell of Liberal, and Marcie Albers of Warrensburg, Mo.; one sister, Phyllis Mahoney Kelling of Lindsborg; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Oakley United Methodist Church in Oakley. Burial will follow at Oakley Cemetery in Oakley.
