Barbara Wingfield van den Berg Oringderff, 85, died on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at the Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1933, in Baltimore to Yzaak van den Berg and Lorena Botts.
She was a member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Finney County Historical Society, Finney County Women’s Chamber, the Bents Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association, Kansas Motor Carriers Association, Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association, Kansas Livestock Publication Council, American Truck Historical Society and the Kansas Press Women.
She was also co-owner and editor of the Territorial Magazine and co-owner of New West Travel, Inc. She was a well-known historian and author.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Oringderff Smith and husband Ran of Tribune and Carol Oringderff Schuetze and husband Chris of Cimarron; four grandchildren, Sarah Jane Schuetze-Montgomery and husband Tyler of Almena, Adam Smith of New York City, Evin Smith of Williamsburg, Va., and Rachel Schuetze of Manhattan; and three nieces, Tiffany Botts, Deb Veatch and husband Harold of Pratt and Patty Bilberry and husband Phil of Hopkins, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James Botts; and her stepfather Daighton Botts.
Celebration of life services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4 at Price and Sons Funeral Home of Garden City.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3 at the funeral home.
