James M. “Jim” Baker, 72, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018, at his home in Garden City.

He was born Feb. 15, 1946, in Garden City to Melvie Ivan and Thelma Alberta (Hill) Baker.

He lived most of his life in Garden City. He attended Garden City schools and graduated from Pierceville High School.

He worked at Dillons, then later as a truck driver. He then worked and retired from the maintenance department at Garden City USD 457. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed motorcycles, drinking coffee, and feeding stray cats in his neighborhood.

On July 29, 1967, he married Joyce Ehmke in Dighton. She survives.

Other survivors include two children, Kim Hamilton of Garden City, and Mike Baker of Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Jim Gass of Edmond, Okla.; four grandchildren, Devin and wife Michala Hamilton, Allyson Hamilton, Kyla Davis and Dacoda Hamilton; and two great-grandchildren, Alexstrasza Hamilton and Ysera Hamilton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ramona Berning.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta.

Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
