DIGHTON — Richard Edward “Dick” Panzner, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at his home in Lane County.
He was born May 4, 1934, in East Islip, N.Y., to Emil and Heddy Schuchert Panzner.
After serving in the U.S. Army, Mr. Panzner moved to Lane County and began his professional rodeo career while also working for area farmers and stockman Maurice Freeman, Dwight Stanley and Dwight Terwilliger. He was a bronc rider until he was 35 and then started team roping for many years. In 1965 he started buying, selling and hauling hay and in 1974 added baling equipment. He enjoyed attending rodeos and his coffee discussions with his farmer friends.
On Jan. 27, 1962, he married Kathryn Ann Keith in Clayton, N.M. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Anson Panzner of Dighton, and Ty Panzner of Jetmore; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton, with military services conducted.
