SCOTT CITY — Mary Ellen Thornton, 66, died Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City. 

She was born March 26, 1952, in Hays, to Victor Calvin and Ruth May Hendrickson Eichbush. 

A resident of Scott City since 1972, moving from Hays, Mrs. Thornton had been working at Heartland Foods as a store clerk. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hays and a member of AA of Scott City.

On June 5, 1972, she married Jack R. Thornton in Hays. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Melissa Dawn Jorgenson of Johnstown, Colo.; a brother, David Eichbush of Hays; a sister, Ruth Lahendro of Aikens, S.C.; three grandchildren, Gage Malchow of Scott City, and Alec Malchow and Kelby Jorgenson, both of Johnstown; and three great-grandchildren, Vincent Malchow of Scott City, and Ivy Jorgenson and Misty Dawn Jorgenson, both of Johnstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Barbara Kubot.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church in Scott City, with Steve Payne presiding. Inurnment will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Mount Allen Cemetery in Hays.
