Christine Bonnie, 82, Minot, ND, formerly of Lakin, KS, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at her home.
Christine May Houghtaling was born May 5, 1936, the daughter of Walter Eugene and Beulah May (Thurston) Houghtaling, in Topeka, KS. She was raised on the family farm near Lakin, KS and graduated from Lakin High School in 1952.
Following graduation, Christine attended cosmetology school and opened her own salon in Lakin.
She married Morris Edward Bonnie on November 10, 1955, in Lakin. The couple was blessed with two children: Mark Edward and Lauri Lynne. Over the years, they made their home in a number of places, including Lakin, KS, Amarillo, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, Vernal, MT, Grand Junction, CO, Owasso, OK and Minot, ND.
Christine was a stay at home mom while raising her children. She later worked as a Personnel Manager for K-Mart until her time of retirement.
Morris passed away on August 17, 1992.
Christine loved everything related to her family. She liked outdoor activities and particularly enjoyed traveling and camping when her family was young.
Surviving family includes:
Children, Mark (Cheryl) Bonnie, Minot and Lauri (Mark) Berry, Owasso, OK; grandchildren, Douglas (Stephanie) Bonnie, Julie (David) Henderson and Alana (Jarrid) Franke; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Wayde (Gail) Houghtaling, Manhattan, KS; sisters, Marylin (Kenneth) Swartley, Olathe, KS and Gail (Eric) Haws, Eugene, OR; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Christine was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Morris Bonnie.
Memorial Service: A private family service will take place at a later date.
