Richard Dwain Schmalzried, 80, of Quinter, died Monday, June 18, 2018. 

He was born March 29, 1938, in Dighton, to Dayton and Selma Uppendahl Schmalzried. He graduated from Dighton High School in 1956.

On July 21, 1962, he married Rozan Heath.

A Quinter resident since 1971, Mr. Schmalzried worked at many professions throughout his life.

Survivors include his wife, Rozan Schmalzried; three sons, Rick Schmalzried of Lafayette, Ind., Rory Schmalzried of Castle Rock, Colo., and Rhett Schmalzried-Lugo of Olathe; two daughters,  Rache Wente of Quinter, and RaLynn Schmalzried Schmidt of Topeka; several grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a twin brother, Ronald Schmalzried of Topeka; and a sister, Mary Wagner of Lincoln, Neb.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Francis and Edward Schmalzried. 

Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Quinter Church of the Brethren. Graveside service will begin at 3 p.m. at Dighton Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the family home at 2590 County Road 74 in Quinter.

Memorials are suggested to the Gove County Medical Center Vein Finder Fund, in care of Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S. Main in Quinter.
