CIMARRON — Joan Payne Jantz, 89, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living in Dodge City.
She was born Nov. 26, 1928, in Elida, N.M., to George and Dorothy “Dot” Womack Berry. She graduated from Elida High School in 1945.
On Nov. 1, 1945, she married Robert Benton “Bob” Payne in Roswell, N.M. They managed various ranches in numerous states, and also owned and operated nursing homes. He preceded her in death as did a son, Gary Payne; a daughter, Suanne Payne Moore; and a grandson.
On Dec. 27, 1996, she married Leo Jantz in Cimarron, where they resided until their recent move to Dodge City. He survives.
Other survivors include her children, Don Payne of Ingalls, Guy Payne of Beaver, Okla., Rex Payne of Satanta, Jake Payne of Cimarron, and Lisa Payne Lloyd of Manhattan; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Cimarron United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery.
Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Cimarron.
