SATANTA — Richard Arnold “Dick” Merz, 79, of Satanta, died Friday, April 27, 2018, at Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colo. 

He was born Dec. 16, 1938, in Garden City, to Arnold and Bonnie Maxwell Merz. He graduated from Satanta High School in 1956.

On May 31, 1963, he married Phyllis Faurot in Clayton, N.M. She died Jan. 17, 2014. He also was preceded in death by his parents.

A lifetime resident of Satanta, Mr. Merz worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline until his retirement in 1995.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Brent Merz of Holcomb, and Brian Leigh Merz of Garden City; a daughter, Shelley Jo Kuehler of Satanta; a brother, Don Merz of Santa Fe, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Satanta United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Dudley Township Cemetery in Satanta. 

Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette.
