Gemma Marie Hessman Mills, 59, died Sunday, April 1, 2018, at her home in Dodge City.

She was born Oct. 14, 1958, in Austin, Texas, to Francis Robert and Bonnie Ruth Leveritt Hessman. She graduated from Dodge City High School.

A lifetime Dodge City resident, Mrs. Mills worked at numerous jobs before retiring in May 2000.

On July 17, 1982, she married Melvin "Joe" Mills Jr., in Dodge City. He survives.

Other survivors include a son, Joseph Mills of Wichita; a daughter, Bonnie Cook of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Robert Benjamin Hessman of Wichita; three sisters, Dava Crussell of Penrose, Colo., Jude Hessman of Dodge City, and Frances Waldren of Wichita; and a grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Rhinehold "Ron" Hessman; a sister, Mary Mel Eesa Rains, who had lived in Garden City; and her grandparents, Fred and Roberta Hessman.

Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Cremation will follow the rosary. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Inurnment will follow at Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Fort Dodge.

Visitation hours are noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
