MONTEZUMA — Ruth Martinez, 98, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Bethel Home in Montezuma.
She was born July 4, 1919, in Mexico, to Jose and Maria Cabrerra Ascencio. She graduated from Ingalls High School.
On June 23, 1941, she married Jay Martinez in Ingalls. He died March 10, 2009. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Barbara Waldron.
Mrs. Martinez had worked as a paraprofessional for the Sublette school district.
Survivors include five children, Ruth Ann Waldron of Dodge City, Susan Riphahn of Fort Collins, Colo., Butch Martinez of Copeland, Mark Martinez of Baldwin City, and Anthony Martinez of Saranac, N.Y.; a sister, Gloria Graff of Silver City, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the cathedral. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery in Copeland.
Visitation hours are noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City.
