Helen Gerber, 97, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.

She was born June 8, 1920, in Andale, to Lawrence and Philomena Peschka Irsik. 

On May 1, 1948, she married Richard Gerber Sr., in Dodge City. In 1959, they purchased Rixon Oil Co. in Charleston, and operated it as Gerber Oil until their retirement in 1982.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Richard Sr., Dodge City; three daughters, Junilla Collard and husband Joe of Allen, Texas, Cheryl Hicks and husband George of Dodge City, and Patty Dunkle and husband Mark of Dodge City; two sons, Richard Gerber Jr. and wife Darinda of Garden City, and Brent Gerber and wife Marla of Ingalls; two sisters, Pat Goebel of Jetmore, and Mary Lorraine Gibbons of Cory, N.C.; a brother, Larry Irsik of Wichita; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Norbert Irsik, Steve Irsik Sr. and Clarence Irsik; and two sisters, Elsie Vogel and Jude Schriwise.

Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Burial will follow at Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.
