DIGHTON — Duane “Sam” Shapland, 78, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at Lane County Hospital in Dighton.
He was born Nov. 18, 1939, in Lane County to Melvin Earnest and Hazel Elaine (Johnson) Shapland.
He married Twila J. Kirkendall on April 7, 1963, in Goodland.
He graduated from Dighton High School in 1957. He worked at Farmers Oil in Dighton for 43 years as tire foreman, assistant manager and interim manager several times. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening — especially growing tomatoes — and being involved with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Twila Shapland of the home; a daughter, Gina Reed and her husband, Roger, of Bettendorf, Iowa; two sons, Kirk Shapland and his wife, Tala, and Cory Shapland, all of Dighto; a sister, Lois Davis and her husband, Rex, of Garden City; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Dighton. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery.
