Clifford Allen Thon, 87, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby.
He was born Oct. 5, 1930, to Alvin and Cornelia (Bruner) Thon.
He graduated from Healy High School in 1948 and went on to enlist in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Badoeng Strait during the Korean War before behing honorably discharged.
He married Delories Paul on April 4, 1951. They returned to the family farm in Scott County, where they worked the farm and raised cattle, before moving into Scott City in 1981. They divorced in 1984.
Clifford married Phyllis Cheney/Bryant on May 2, 1991. They lived in Dighton. He ended his career working at Royal Beef Feeders in Scott County, where he worked for 10 years before retiring in 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; six children, Gregory Thon of Nashville, Tenn., Linda Sowers of Colby, Stephen Thon of Overland Park, Stephanie Wessel of Peyton, Colo., Michelle Thon of Buckeye, Ariz., and Valerie Latham of Dallas, Ore.; a sister, Delores Roemer of Scott City; a brother Larry Thon of Kansas City, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post #190 of Dighton and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
