John G. Baier, 82, of Garden City, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at Seminole Care and Rehab Center in Seminole, Okla. He had lived a short time in Seminole to be near his daughter.

He was born Aug. 9, 1935, in Holcomb, to Phillip David Baier and Mary Elizabeth Burgardt.

Mr. Baier was a water well specialist and machinist for Henkle Drilling and Supply Co. in Garden City for 35 years before retiring. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and 1961 to 1963 and was discharged as a Private First Class. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and loved camping and being outdoors, travel and spending time with his family.

On Jan. 21, 1961, he married Patricia B. Wishon at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. She survives.

Other survivors include five daughters and their spouses, Anita M. and Harold H. Smith of Seminole, Carla J. and Del Clowdis of Minneola, Darla J. and Brad Jackson of Satanta, Shari S. and J. Adam Purdy of Spotsylvania, Va., and Kristi L. and Roger L. Calkins of Holcomb; two sisters, Helen Smith, and Virginia and Dennis Green, all of Garden City; 23 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Church in Garden City, with the Rev. Ed Binns officiating.

Cremation services were arranged by Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
