Avelino Peter “Jay” Hernandez, Jr., 58, of Garden City, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at his home in Garden City.
He was born May 11, 1959, in Garden City to Avelino Peter Sr. and Josephine Gloria (Campos) Hernandez.
He married Sue Ann Martinez on Oct. 29, 1982, in Garden City. She died Jan. 11, 2013. He worked for Palmer Manufacturing for 13 years and most recently for Tyson.
Survivors include his children, Diane Hernandez (Hector Negrete) of Garden City, Abraham Hernandez (Jennifer Valdez Hernandez) of Satanta, Heather Hernandez (Daniel Cisneros) of Garden City, Anthony Hernandez of Garden City, and Emilio Hernandez of Garden City; sisters, Liz Ruiz (Lalo Ruiz) of Garden City, and Bridget Bricker (Dennis Bricker) of Indiana; aunts, Rachel Lopez, Ruth Campos and Nevis Gallardo, all of Garden City; an uncle, Jesus Ledesma, of Garden City; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
In Addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
A rosary will be held 5 p.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church of Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
