Jeffrey “Jeff” Holmes, formerly of Garden City, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at his home in Colwich. 

He was born Oct. 1, 1964, in Garden City, to Dean and Shirla Holmes. In 1983, he graduated from Garden City High School, where he had been a standout on the football, basketball and track teams and was selected the Outstanding Athlete his senior year. He continued his athletic career in pole vaulting at Kansas State University, graduating in 1988.

Mr. Holmes was a career-long claims adjustor and representative for State Farm Insurance Co. He had lived in the Wichita area since 2014. 

Survivors include a son, Drake Holmes of the home; his father, Dean Holmes of Amarillo, Texas; his mother, Shirla Holmes of Garden City; a sister, Regina and John Lovell of Amarillo; two brothers, Lyle and LaDawn Holmes of Platte City, Mo., and Craig Holmes and Betty Becker of Lakeway, Texas; nieces and nephews, Sarah Holmes, Mitch and Alyssa Holmes, Lindy and Chuck Waltrip, Amanda Holmes, Tyke Holmes and Jace Holmes; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Zada Holmes, Maralee Holmes and C.J. Waltrip.

Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Garden Valley Church in Garden City. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Visitation hours are noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
